I agree with you! This dance is very important in terms of "realisations". The way Gwyneth Paltrow plays it makes it seem as though she, too, is perhaps becoming a little aware of some feelings she may have for her brother-in-law (I noticed this when I watched it several times!) She also shoots some kind of longing-ish looks to Knightley - just watch her expression change at the very beginning when he holds her waist. Emma is like "whoa!"

BTW, I just thought I'd add that I LOVE the way JN glides across the floor in front of the camera during that dance, just before they (Emma and Mr K) join up with the two others in a line and take a step forward, then one back...etc. hopefully you know the bit I mean! (You'll have to forgive me - I just got the video a couple of weeks ago, and can't pass through one day without at least watching my favourite scenes - the ball scene being one of them!)

Hmm, anyway, I hope that kind of tells you something!
