] Wow! Now I feel like the only person in the world who DIDN'T like Emma1! I thought that the Mr. Knightley, Frank Churchill, and Mr. Woodhouse roles were cast very well but I couldn't STAND the Emma1 Emma. I thought she played the role as patronizing and nasty. I disliked her so much in the role that I ended up halfway hoping that Mr. Knightley would find someone else.

] Harried Smith was excellent in Emma1 and the story was more true to the book. I've found that most of the BBC versions keep closer to the book than today's versions. Then again, Emma1 was faithful to the book and missed all the magic of Emma2.

I agree, Betsy.

I liked parts of all the Emmas, but it seems like the really best adaptations have sparkle, magic, that certain something that isn't necessarily connected to their faithfulness to the book.
