] Beautifully put Lynn -- that is how I feel about "Clueless" and "Emma2" -- Austen fans will always find fault with them, but they encouraged many individuals (young and old) to pick up a JA novel and see for themselves ...
] That said -- I really liked "Clueless." Its been on HBO all month so I've watched it quite a few times recently. I didn't look at it as "Emma" really, but as a cute "summer" movie with some neat JA references.

amazing and gratifying to think that clueless motivated people to read ja. i think "adults" get a laugh AS WELL AS a lesson from emma, and younger people get THE SAME from clueless, which is about the highest compliment i can give that flick, and probably more than it deserves.
