I think I read something about this sometime--probably something Henry posted. I read that a person would be interviewed by someone in the church, who would presumeably ask questions about theology and the various church rites. I also think that this interview varied greatly in its depth. Some men were asked very little, and others were grilled--it depended on the interviewer. Once they passed this "oral", the men could enter the clergy.
