] Interesting you bring this up, as I just watched "Clueless" again last night, after having watched "Emma2" about 10 times recently. I have to say that I did see a lot of similarities in the mannerisms of the characters, but that's where it ends. I thought that Rudd's Josh never really appeared to be *that* interested in Cher. Only two occasions that I can think of really stand out: When Christian comes to pick her up. And when he sees her at the dance.
] Northam's wonderful talent of acting with his facial expressions gave his Mr. Knightley more opportunity to express his "affection" for Emma. There were so many times in "Emma2" when the look on Mr. Knightley's face said it all. There are many times when you think.. hmmm maybe he likes her! Emma and Knightley have an easiness about their conversations that Cher and Josh lacked.
I saw "Clueless" for the first time a couple weeks ago and I was surprised at all the parallels to Emma! Of course, I had "Emma" on my mind the whole time I watched Clueless, so obviously I was comparing Josh to Mr. Knightley. Since Clueless was about teenagers, the subtleties of voice, mannerisms, etc. that carried Emma2 along and made it so enjoyable were mostly lacking in Clueless. After all, I don't think teenagers are known for being subtle! Paul Rudd did a great job, given the material, but he can't hold a candle to JN - although the look on his face as Cher is coming down the stairs for her date with Christian was VERY Knightley-like! I enjoyed Clueless, but I'm not tempted to watch it over and over again as I am with Emma2.
