Exactly! And I think the enlightened Elizabeth, too. I don't think that if the ladies to which we are introduced at the beginning of their respective books would have like each other very much, but I believe that Mrs. Darcy and Mrs. Knightley would have enjoyed each other's company very much. I think they both have to undergo some changes. And remember, the title of P&P does not specify that only Darcy was proud--Lizzie was exceedingly proud in her way, and that included being proud at being wittier than the rich snobs, of whom Emma was sure to have been.
