Kathy F., your comparison reminded me of something that came to mind as I (re)watched Emma2 some time back. When we first meet the Bates ladies at Hartfield, Emma greets them with "Mrs. Bates, Miss Bates" in a tone of voice which brings to mind Caroline Binlgey's greeting of the Bennets at the Netherfield Ball.
