] appreciated these comments, esp. as i had expressed an interest in other's opinions on the dreams the other day. i liked them, but i guess a factor in the writer's deciding to insert them was the fact that they could advance the story faster(emma3 was only 107 mins long). they can also convey a feeling very directly; that's one thing i find i respond to in movies as much or more than even dialogue, photography, etc.(although i respond to them, as well!), i.e., emotional content. this is evident by how important the musical score is: if a movie is excellent but the score is forgettable or ill-matched to the mood, i don't respond well to the movie. what is(are)your favorite dream sequences? mine are when she dreams about mr k marrying jf, the daydream about fc rescuing harriet, and the montage at the end when she realizes she loves mr k. these are favorites not least because of the scenes they cut-in to; the rainy scene after the montage, e.g., because of that emotional feel you get from it.

________

I liked the montage during the rainy day scene too, greg. One of my favorites was the day dream or dream about Mr Knightley marrying Harriet -- the look of triumph on Harriet's face is priceless (and so out of character for Harriet), that you can understand Emma waking up with a start! Emma's imagining how Mr Dixon's rescue of Jane occurred is also good. (Besides, who wouldn't try to daydream while listening to Miss Bates!)
