Yes, He is always making asides, and she is always thinking but why didn't Emma realize it? A friend and I were discussing this and she thinks it was because Emma was so preoccupied with everyone elses happiness that she overlooked her own (women still do this) so this seems reasonable but I get the feeling that Jane made them a little too reticent.

Isn't that the whole point to the story? That, because Emma was so busy sticking her beak in other people's love lives, she failed to recognise her own?! Surely that is the whole point?!
