You've made me think that maybe Dion is a combination of Miss Taylor's friendship in the role of Jane Fairfax's similarity of age. Miss Geist may be the recipient of Cher's matchmaking efforts, ala Miss Taylor, but with the close friendship aspect missing. It is interesting because the characters are in some ways so altered to fit today's society that it is sometimes hard to see how they relate to the original text. Sorry to beat a dead horse, but it is nice to be able to debate/discuss something on this board that I'm perfectly willing to discuss Clueless :)
