Hello--I wanted to post a comment in regards to Sari's comment about Knightly being so ugly in the BBC film. From what I've discovered as a student at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Knightly is supposed to be ugly. Or at least plain--looking like Sense's Edward. The sweet yet clumsy hero in all of the novels is meant to be kind of nerdy or plain-looking so that the heroine has a difficult time choosing which man to choose. When the producers of the current Sense & Sensibility cast cute-looking Hugh Grant as Edward Ferrars they certainly were NOT following Austen's character scheme. Am I completely wrong? Please let me know because I am studying Austen's novels for a class as well as doing my Senior Project paper on her novels. My subject is: How to teach Jane Austen to contemporary American High School students and make it fun. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ever so much!!
