] ] I'm curious about the accent of the Mrs. Elton character in Emma 3. It sounded almost American or like a bad imitation of an American accent. I would have thought that that was just how the actress spoke but she plays Mrs. Hurst in P&P2 where she does not have this peculiar accent. Did anyone else notice this?

I have made a comment on the P&P board about this- I think there's a reason why she talks like this, but on the whole, it was badly done, Mrs Elton, badly done!!!!

] Yes, I noticed this. I thought she must be an American actress, and they had cast her because (sigh) making the character American would set the seal to her vulgarity. Now that you say she's actually British, the theory seems even more likely.
