can't guess who you're referring to, kali(need more clues)

Susan might be able to help you out here. ;-}

but speaking of older people, helena bonham carter would've been a great emma, with sean connery(if he could fake the accent) as mr k.

'Tis twoo, Emma need not be played by a spring chicken - same goes for Mr. Knightley, really. Anyone over thirty and younger than sixty with the right manners might fill the bill, which explains why I liked both John Carson and jeremy. Back to Emma, i was thinking that Polly Walker might make a pretty good heroine. There'a a gal who can play women who know what they're about - or at least think that they do! But, then we'd have to find someone to outdo her looks without outstripping her exuberance. Might be difficult. Oh, and Jeremy Northam as Frank. That's more his general style.

birtwistle/davies are definitely keepers, though - i know it would be futile for me to think-up someone better.

I was thinking that Emma Thompson would be the right person for the script. She's got a distinct sense of humor, but she knows how to milk the drama, too.

keep it all in surrey(unlike mcgrath's) for authenticity.

This will be tough, as Surrey is filled with smokestacks and power lines now. Serious industrial stuff and the 'burbs. Perhaps Somersetshire and Wilstshire, which is where they filmed S&S (Lacock is in Wilts., too). Emma3 was partially filmed in the Cotswolds and it shows (dry, hilly, limestone buildings), not always to its advantage. As much as I love Dorsetshire, I agree that wasn't the kosherest choice, either.

i'd keep some of mcgrath's humor, though, upon my honor(which is in the book, though not as a laugh)! and my version would have BOTH mr. e's charades and the box hill word puzzles!

Woman and Courtship both, eh? Just Courtship is enough for me. And I would NOT omit the puzzles - rather open up a whole new can of film than cut it for practical reasons.
