] It's interesting the previous year, many critics picked the smaller-budget Persuasion was named best pic by many major critics, but it didn't get one Oscar nomination. The much overloooked Sophie Thompson was just as brilliant in Persuasion as in Emma2. But-no nominations. Amanda Root was an incredible Anne.

I agree about the strength of Persuasion, Cassandra, but the Oscars have this (I think stupid) rule about theatrical release. Persuasion was seen on television before it was released in theatres, and hence neither it nor its actors were eligible for Oscar nomination. :(

I liked Jerry Maguire (guess I'm in the minority). It wasn't an Oscar-winning movie, but I laughed. Although it got off to a slow start, Bonnie Hunt was brilliant, IMHO.
