] IMHO one thing that wasn't done properly was that Cher was much more vain that Emma ever would be. I'm not saying that Emma thought herself plain, more that you knew she was pretty but didn't spend much time thinking about it. I missed that aspect, Emma would always promote Harriet as prettier than herself. That was one of her few apparent good characteristics at the beginning of the novel.
Yes, even Mr. Knightley (one of the few who saw any fault in her, and the only one who told her of it) acknowledges that Emma is one of the least vain people in the world, and it is all the more surprising, because she is so beautiful.
But, we are discussing "Clueless" here, aren't we--not exactly the closest adaptation to the book! ;-)
