]... Jane Fairfax in the version of "Emma" with Gwyneth Paltrow (is it Emma2 or 3 ? ) portrayed her a bit too selfassured and made her much more elegant and ladylike than Emma. ...but I pictured Jane Fairfax as a little shy mouse.
] What is your opinion?
Polly Walker played Jane Fairfax in Emma2. I agree that she wasn't terribly suited for the role physically. Jane never seemed that "dramatic" to me (Polly Walker is very dramatic. Did you see her in Enchanted April? Excellent!). I think I always pictured Jane as being finer-featured, and Polly Walker just doesn't look 21, IMHO.
But like Kathy (below), I've always thought of Jane as being more accomplished and more elegant than Emma is--she's led much less confined a life than Emma. (I don't really have a definite opinion about which one is prettier; they're both pretty in my imagination.)
I don't think I'd say Jane should be more self-assured than Emma. For me, Jane's lack of open temper and her reserve keep her from being really self-assured; however, it also doesn't make her mousy...
