] The introduction . . . told the ending, so there was little point in reading the story after that--part of the joy of reading is not knowing the end until the end {exasperated sigh). . .

I HATE that. I always think of them as "extroductions," and read them last.

Not only does it save one from unwanted knowledge, it leaves a little cushion of wallowing-in-the-book at the end--one can come down off the high a little more gently!
