It has notes of creepiness about it, I agree.

Buy it's also true that Knightley is saying this in a sort of hindsight--how much did he really feel and how much is he colouring with the brush he's got out at the moment?

He hasn't done anything romantic/sexual/adult about his interest in Emma until she was very much of age.

Highbury society provides only one equal for Knightley too...
