] I always have been. It looks to me like he trained Emma to be everything he wanted in a wife. I'm bugged by his being in love with her since she was a young girl.
Buy it's also true that Knightley is saying this in a sort of hindsight--how much did he really feel and how much is he colouring with the brush he's got out at the moment?
He hasn't done anything romantic/sexual/adult about his interest in Emma until she was very much of age.
Highbury society provides only one equal for Knightley too...
