Megan, I do not like people I don't know calling me dearest. And you haven't upset anybody's sensibilites. You were asked the same question that everyone in your situation is asked. I am sorry to say that you are the only one who reacted this way.
I tried to answer your questions about this name issue, on the JN discussion page. But I am sensing from the tone of your posts that you are not too happy about this and that you are making a big deal out of nothing. Nobody is blaming you for using your own name. But you must understand that when we can't see each other's faces we have to have a way of distinguishing between people who share the same name. The common procedure is that the newcomer is asked to add an initial or a letter. So far this system worked out fine....
