Is some of it that JA was careful not to make him perfect? If he always knows his own mind, he's limited as to growth.
It is so fun to watch him go from saying things like "I'd like to see Emma in love" to saying things like, "I must, I will,--I will tell you truths while I can."
*sigh*
I periodically re-read just Chapter 5 to keep his character at the beginning freshing in my mind.
