] "Faultless in spite of all her faults" has always been one of my favorite lines. Do you think Mr. Knightley loved Emma in spite of or because of her faults? I believe it's a combination of both.

Both--I think he focuses on her goodness, but he knows very well that the not-so-good qualities are there. His knowing she's not perfect only makes him love her all the more. I like this similar quote very much:

"How often, when you were a girl, have you said to me, with one of your saucy looks--`Mr. Knightley, I am going to do so-and-so; papa says I may, or I have Miss Taylor's leave'--something which, you knew, I did not approve. In such cases my interference was giving you two bad feelings instead of one."

"What an amiable creature I was!--No wonder you should hold
my speeches in such affectionate remembrance."
