One of the things that makes Jane Fairfax so fearful of saying too much is her engagement to Frank, of course, cause I don`t think she is naturally shy. I agree with your description of Emma-she is manipulative, likes to be in control. And she also envies Jane, cause Jane is the supremely accomplished one-something that Emma had given up trying to be-and has Knightley`s admiration-something that Emma cannot stand deep down. I have been watching Emma3 and Emma´s faults become crystal clear in the first part. It`s actually hard to like her...but I do somehow.
