I agree with you, Cassandra. Emma is definitely not the maliciously manipulative type - she just believes she is doing good. How very wrong she is, though, huh!?!? ;-)
And yes, I agree that, in some ways, Harriet is much more clear-sighted than Emma. Although she is dissuaded from Robert Martin (by Emma) from the very beginning of Emma's knowledge of him, Harriet's true love for him does manage to survive two other 'crushes' which, as you know, were completely guided into by Emma herself.
I think I just made absolutely no sense whatsoever, but hey!
