] Strangely enough, on JNortham's audiobook reading of Emma, he does a more accurate, angrier Knightley than Hollywood allowed him. He is a very talented actor (and handsome), as is his counterpart, Mark Strong. I think that it is hard/unjust to compare the two.

Cassandra; Of course it is my perception and my opinion. Isn't that what the board is for, to express your opinions and perceptions? Don't take it so personally. There is room for both portrayals, with neither one being more right or wrong than the other.

Also, is there an unwritten law that states that a gentleman can't also be an angry man? Who is to say that John wasn't even 10 times more of a bear than George!

Nor, do I agree. Mr. Knightley is above-all a gentleman-the one in a hundred with gentleman so plainly written line. JA comments on/emphasizes his cheerfulness next to John.
