] I just saw Emma2 on video. I am a huge Austen fan, and LOVED this movie to death. I rented it thinking -- "oh yea, sure, Gwyneth Paltrow as Emma -- horrible casting!" -- But I was very pleasantly surprised -- she was, in fact, a perfect Emma in my view. Jeremy Northam was also terrific (so romantic!!) I have always loved Austen for her wit, social satire, and, of course, the romance. This movie had a perfect script/adaptation of the novel, perfect casting, and perfect direction.

] Hi Bonnie! I share your enthusiasm for Austen and Emma2. GP surprised me too. And Jeremy NOrtham was the Mr. Knightley of my dreams. I think Doug McGrath is a genius-brillant, witty writer and director. Emma2 was so obviously a labor of love on his part. What are your favorite lines, scenes?

Cassandra:

I loved the archery scene. Also, the scene where Emma is performing at the Coles' party, Knightley is smiling lovingly, and then when Frank gets up and begins to sing with Emma, Knightley's countenance changes dramatically -- like a storm coming over his face. And of course the scene at the ball -- when Knightley breathlessly asks Emma "With whom are you going to dance?" -- such a beautiful, yet subtle clue to how he is feeling.
