] I think Mr Knightley explained it to Emma very well after the insult. It was very disrespectful of Emma to insult Miss Bates in front of company, including Jane, Miss Bates' niece.
Wouldn't this have deeply offended Jane, and prevented any chance of a reconcilliation between Jane and Emma in the future? or was Jane too distracted by other things that day to mark what Emma said when not seeming to flirt with Frank?
