I think that Emma regrets it; but I don't think Harriet's thoughts are so clearly defined. I'm not sure if Emma's regret is stemming from her actions or the outcome--whether she is sorry that she ever befriended her, or sorry that she messed up both lives--almost. But whichever it is, I think that such a relationship cannot be maintained.
