the scene you mention is the one with mrs. weston, right before the "i love/hate john" isn't it? that's a favorite of mine, but i thought it had more potential than was realized; i thought she kind of rushed through "i love him" the way others say mark strong slurred the "brother and sister!" line in the emma3 dance scene.
Rushed? That was a mile-a-minute sort of scene, Greg...thought after thought in rapid succession! She has little time to think about and enjoy (let alone explain in sufficient terms) her feelings of love. She is confused by her desires, and detracted by her fears...also, think of how difficult admitting her feelings, so long repressed, would be? Many people think that Emma would not have discussed the issue anyhow (out of embarrassment, propriety, or what have you), though I think that she might have confided in Mrs. Weston to get it partially off of her chest. It's logical, though it wouldn't be my course of action. [BTW, I thought MS's "brother and sister" line was perfectly fine...]
