] How about Emma as JA?

] Neat idea...HOWEVER! I don't think that Jane Austen was hampered by the same delusions of self-importance as was Emma. Austen had a pretty good idea of who she was and what her place was in society, whereas Emma does not, and CANnot, until she understands Mr. Knightley, realizes that she loves him, and then marries him.

________

Perhaps Emma's delusions can be swept away by Mr. Knightley's marrying Harriet Smith. (?) Then, she'll realize that she loves him, and understand him partly--because she'll have grown up a bit ("I'd like to see her in love with some doubt of its return)--without having to marry him and having such troublesome things to worry about like a house and husband--not to mention father!
