Clapham, Surrey

Kearsley's Traveller's Entertaining Guide Through Great Britain (1803):

Clapham Common.

From many parts of this common are beautiful views of the Thames with London and the country beyond it. In the old parish church, a mean edifice, divine service is only performed at funerals. An elegant new church has been built on this common.

Quotations
 Chapter 47
"He meant, I believe," replied Jane, "to go to Epsom, the place where they last changed horses, see the postilions, and try if anything could be made out from them. His principal object must be to discover the number of the hackney-coach which took them from Clapham."
