Claverton Down

Walks Through Bath (1818) by P Egan

Claverton-Down, which is 400 feet above the City of Bath, and so distinguished for its beautiful extensive level velvet turn, is soon gained. The views towards the north, south and west, are peculiarly interesting. The Bath Races were formerly held here; and it is a most delightful siutation. The shell of an antique castle, which appears to face very part of the City, and which is a conspicuous feature for some miles, was erected on this Down also by Mr. Allen.
