in consequence of the missive, I agree (Spoilers), penned by Barbara Lynn
My jaw dropped when Heidi said Alexandria was safe. I thought Bradon used too little of his textile in his look...but Alexandria used almost none! And it looked so sloppy, the whole thing. I do not understand her work at all - it never looks finished or polished, she just seems to tear fabric into pieces and drape it on a form and call it done. That's not construction, and it's not design! And she teaches kids how to sew! Yikes!
Justin...well, it's not PC to say it, but I am certain that he was "saved" by Tim Gunn and continues to be safe because of his deafness. Otherwise I simply can't understand why Alexander and Kate were eliminated. Kate's dress was unfortunate - why didn't she actually make a print out of zeroes and ones?? That could have been so cool! But she's been in the top so much, and has such a clear aesthetic as a designer, I think she just kind of lost direction on this one. But that's certainly not enough to eliminate her. Alexander's look was a bit kooky, but not only was the inspiration for this challenge really really contrived, I think he had to really walk a fine line because drawing on pastries and cakes for a runway look could very easily get overly costume-y, and he definitely wanted to avoid that. So he went with a more somber, subdued print and shape and the judges called it unsexy - like fashion always has to be sexy! I've seen models walking down the runway in designer shows wearing what look like burlap bags!! But what do I know??
