in consequence of the missive, What an episode! Question about boarding house, penned by Mary Ellen F
About a month before FOYLE'S WAR started airing, our local PBS Station aired a featurette on "The Making Of..." Burned by past experience where these features give away many plot points and secrets, I recorded it and saved it. It was all I could do to keep from watching it...but I resisted. After the series ended, I finally watched it, and am so glad I waited.
Good thing, too. The feature gave away many plot points -- among them, the big reveal at the end about Sam expecting a baby!
]...why didn't the professor's housemates turn him in, or take revenge once they figured out he was a former Nazi officer?
I didn't forget your question about the Nazi. I've tried to find an answer, by rewatching, and researching it, but could find no answer. I, too, don't understand why they didn't turn Van Haren in. The landlady did have an affair with him, but tells Foyle after the explosion (and believing he'd been killed) that she was glad he was dead. This was not made clear at all in the episode.
