Actually, not wedding - we got married more than five years ago but never took a honeymoon, so this was long overdue :-)
I'm really surprised they did another unconventional materials challenge so soon. Sure, it saves money from their budgets, but I bet they're all eager to get back to Mood and real fabric!
Kate was understandably wary of team challenges after last season, but I'm really happy for her and Helen to have had such success together. I was not okay with how Kate treated Thu last season, but she does seem to have been able to keep her head down and really focus on the challenges and less on the surrounding drama this season. I could see how getting paired with Helen might make her nervous with how poorly Helen did last week, but I think she saw herself as something like a mentor to Helen this week, without being overbearing. Well done to both of them and it was very gracious of her to give Helen credit for the overall design. She knows that the judges know her strengths in creating understructure and supportive shapes, so that was going to be flawless no matter what, but if Helen's hand was really more evident in the engineering of the sombreros, great! It really was wearable art and I think they elevated the challenge to a height even Tim and the judges hadn't expected.
As for Dom and Alexandria...I have found Alexandria's work pretty boring so far, but Dom is probably starting to feel like "always a bridesmaid, never a bride," so to speak. She came in second to Kate last week, and came in second to Kate's team this week. I loved the Harajuku aspect of their outfit - it was very clever to use the elements of the stuffed animal to make what was actually quite wearable and cute (the mouth/pocket was pretty brilliant). It basically came down to whether the judges preferred the sophistication of Helen and Kate's look or the playfulness of Dom and Alexandria's - the latter being more Coney Island, but the former being more of a real transformation of the materials they won. Also...I just found it kind of adorable how Alexandria (former model) *towered* over Dom on the runway.
If Alexander and Justin's look was so awful, how come Sandro and Sue's got through?? Both designs were tacky and overwrought, almost indistinguishable from each other. Same color scheme, same "method" of throwing vinyl onto a dressform and sewing it down. At least Bradon and Karen's, though again it was the same color scheme, had structure and a story, albeit a bit of a confusing one. And don't even get me started on Sandro's comment about the woman listening to a man. He disgusts me.
Ken and Jeremy's was the most fashion-forward, although the colors didn't go together. Jeremy's definitely a pants guy and I hope once he gets to work with real fabric on a regular basis we'll see his tailoring come through. Ken's looks so far have been kind of average, but I think he has potential.
Timothy and Miranda...geez, what can you say about them?? He's odd...like, something's legitimately off about him. I half expected him to say "It's so FLUFFY!!!" just like the little girl in Despicable Me when she saw the unicorn prize on the boardwalk. But whatever he did to get on Miranda's nerves, her attitude and the way she was talking about him was totally out of line. And then even when she felt bad about it and was "apologizing," the words "I'm sorry" never actually escaped her lips, so he was still stinging about the whole thing when they were talking to the judges after the runway. Their dress/jacket was boring, although it did look more like clothing than some of the other designs. It was just that their clashing personalities meant that they couldn't work together on taking it somewhere fun or interesting. I think she's probably next to go though, unless she really wows the judges next week. The first two looks we saw from her were identical, and it was only because of Timothy that we didn't get a third pencil skirt from her on this challenge.
