I see your point about the realism, but I actually really like the creator's justification.
Imagine a friendless girl without family who ends up working in a weird isolated house and her only way of letting at least somebody know that something is off is her vlog. Nothing serious has happened yet that would require calling the police, and she can't call her mom or older brother and tell them that her employer was injured in a weird accident and nobody explained her what had happened. In episode 14, Grace was really nasty to her; at least to me she sounded horrible and I admire Jane for not freaking out about it. Here I really see the point why she uploaded it.
But there are some clear problems with the format. For once, I was quite doubtful when in LBD, it was established that Jane and Lizzie didn't watch Lydia's vlog, or that during some time Jane was so busy that she din't watch Lizzie's. Now, she could be sending them care packages, but she didn't have five minutes to sit and watch it, for instance when she was waiting in line at the post office? ;-) I don't buy it. Or Darcy was pining after Lizzie, and he never Googled her? He would have found her videos during the Netherfield arc in real life.
It could work if Jane said Grace straight away, ok, I'm filming and I'm uploading this because it was seriously creepy, and deal with it. Only the screaming and argument would be much worse, I suppose.
I actually enjoy a lot the immediacy of the narration. If a web-series was shot with out-of-universe camera with say, Jane's voice-overs, it would lose a lot in my opinion. They couldn't play with the glitches and camera angles as they do.
In future projects like these, it could be fun and more realistic if the characters told others right away about their vlogs and let them watch, perhaps even film their reactions to watching it. Or at least have them okay it with a short conversation. (Oh, you are filming? - Yes. You don't mind, do you? - No. Will you put it on your Facebook? - No, but I have a video blog. I might edit it and put there the best bits from this party. - Cool. I might watch it sometimes.)
