I was stunned when Matthew was kllled because I did not know it was coming; same with Sybil. Because both actors chose to leave, I didn't feel contempt or annoyance - just great disappointment. I was rather used to Sybil not being around as much and I didn't care, but I am going to miss Matthew. He was such an integral part of the show and easy on the blinkers too.
