Next message Isobel's Future (with or without Dr. C)

in consequence of the missive, Isobel & Clarkson, penned by Golda
I have had moments of annoyance with her but over all I like the character. And Dr. Clarkson.
However, Clarkson's proposal seemed a bit our of left field to me. (Not so for the DH, but he's the Romantic of the family.) It just felt as if JF were pounding a square block into a round hole in order to set up events between the two on into the next series. I suppose I should give him credit for at least trying to do that when so often he just skips set-ups completely, but skipping right to a proposal felt a bit heavy handed to me. Doesn't feel like that would be in Dr. C's character. He was not very satisfied even after his apology to her for broaching the marriage question so suddenly. He seems to be surprising even himself with his reactions. If I'm honest, I do question the apparent need to pair everyone off. Seems very soapy to me. In real life people have friends and close work colleagues that goes no further than that. (Yeah, yeah, I know, it's a soap opera. But it COULD be so much more!) I am also wondering what there is to keep Isobel at Downton with Matthew gone? There's the work, of course. Dr. Clarkson factors into that. And her grandchild. I can see loads to drama cropping up between the grandparents concerning the rearing of the Crawley child. I wonder if JF is building to a bit of a crisis for Isobel when she has to choose to stay or go? |
