...Edith just wants to be loved. She's grateful to anyone who appreciates her. That's why she seems to headed down a path with a married man; she is feeling desperate and if marriage isn't in the cards, company with a handsome man who loves her is a pretty good second. As an audience, some of us will be able to justify it by saying that his wife is ill and it's not as if he is going out with a mistress in the evening and then home to a wife and kids late at night, pretending everything is fine. Others of course, will draw a hard line. I only feel for Edith because she can waste a lot of time with the wrong man and ruin her reputation at the same time.
