I think that Rose (Shrimpy and Susan's daughter) has been brought on as the requisite hot young thing, and this is who Tom will be matched up with. As for Mary, I think she will look to and emulate her beloved granny, the Dowager Violet. She has seen firsthand that the elderly matriarch still has power, presence and personality to spare.
