I've been expecting for two weeks now that they would mix up the teams, but they keep sticking with the teams they started out with. Do you think the team structure will stay the same for the whole season?? It's just so demoralizing for Dream Team to keep losing.
I'm not sure Michelle Lesniak Franklin is correct that her whole team is holding her back - I don't see anything really fabulous about her designs (her dress this week was so dull and forgettable, and the flecks of gold had nothing to do with the cross-hatch design on the perfume bottle). Although I guess the opposite thing happened on Keeping It Real, where Stanley and Richard had low scores (and deservedly so, IMO) but were kept afloat by the rest of their team. It just emphasizes how much team members need to be looking out for each other as well as themselves.
Matthew's little dominatrix costume was an ebarrassment. I couldn't believe Tim was encouraging him in that direction!! That was so confusing.
I did not understand what the judges saw in Patricia's design. First of all, yes, it's neat to make your own textiles, but now she's done it twice, and the judges don't tend to like it when designers become one-trick ponies (what was that phrase Dimitry used? One-trick monkeys?). Basically she cuts squares out of leather and sews them together. The colors were dull and flat, and the shape unflattering. I'm glad she didn't win!!
Joseph Aaron and Amanda's collaboration was nice, but nothing to knock your socks off. The color behind the latticework was all wrong. Heidi said pink, gold, and black. Apparently they all heard "nude, gold, and black" because that's what they all ended up using! Except Cindy, who chose a horrifying shade of pink in the least forgiving fabric ever. But was her dress worse than Benjamin's, which had absolutely no design and no construction?? I'm not so sure. That was truly horrifying. To have the bodice be simultaneously too tight and in danger of slipping down any second is an accomplishment, I guess...
I almost completely forgot about Tu. Could it be his forgettable designs, or the fact that the editing keeps him so much in the background? I think it's a combination of both. His dress was a big yawn. Part of the problem is that his model has a permanent sneer on her face, so she makes it look like she knows his designs are kind of subpar. She actually reminds me of Anna Chancellor.
I wasn't falling all over myself for Kate and Layana's gown, but it was certainly the best construction out of the whole group, and the most balanced in elements - there was a lot going on, but unlike Richard's ruffle party, it was tasteful. I almost wish the pink had been more prominent (again, with the black over it, it looked more nude than pink). But overall it was really well done.
And yay for Daniel winning the press event, even though he designed for the ad campaign! I'm really rooting for him. He's confident in his skills without having to flaunt them (*ahem* Benjamin) and kind enough to help others, and it came back in the form of getting that leather from Patricia. He's a good soul.
