I didn't find that objectionable, possibly because standards of beauty can be so different. So who is to say whether Rochester, if he looked like Dalton, would consider himself handsome by the standards of his day, or by his own standards, or by Jane's for that matter.

Besides, I've never actually seen a production where Rochester wasn't reasonably good looking. Lol.
