In season 2, when Charlie's grandparents first showed up, Ethel offered herself as a nanny or housemaid so she could be near Charlie but Grandpa adamantly refused. They thought that Ethel could never maintain the secret in the long term and it would be too difficult to explain to the boy. He said they could tell the boy when he was older.

Of course, declining the suggestion once doesn't rule out reconsidering it again. But it didn't happen this time.
