And, really, if Isabel was all in favor of poor Ethel keeping her child, why didn't she suggest that the grandparents take them both in? Not that it would be much fun for Ethel to live with or near that horrible man, but it seemed bizarre to me that no one even suggested the possibility. If this were a better show, I'd think this was intentional, as a way of pointing up the class blindness in even generally sympathetic and progressive Isabel, but as it is, I think it's just a plot convenience.
