1. If the ship has a hole in it, it can still be surrounded by floats and floated in (while people are working furiously at the pumps, of course).
2. The drydock depicted is below ground level so it can be flooded and drained. Therefore, if the doors were open to admit the ship, it would be flooded to the top. Au revoir, convicts! 3. If you drag a ship along the stone drydock, you'll scrape its bottom off. Au revoir, ship! But, yeah, it's opera. Disbelief suspended, sir! And it sure did make for a scene of misery and dispair. |
