in consequence of the missive, Movies vs. stage versions of musicals, penned by Kathi
I think I'm on both sides of the debate, depending on the quality of the production. I remember seeing a version of "Guys and Dolls" at my high school which was terrific. The main actress was so hilarious. I saw the movie later and I really disliked it.
Generally, movie versions can bring you closer to the action, really drawing out your emotions. On the other hand, I think that if it is good, nothing can beat a great stage version-- there's something about seeing it live that is just so exciting and visceral. |
