Although I have seen the anniversary concerts, I don't expect it is the same impact as seeing a stage production. So unfortunately I can't comment too much, but of all the things, I must agree that the movie Les Mis certainly called up some very strong emotions in me - it brought out the various misersies people were experiencing and the political turmoil very vividly. The music, I thought, was not as well done as what I have seen/heard in the anniversary concert, but the story itself carried it through.
