My absolute favourite (spoilers)   Written by Golda (12/3/2012 12:43 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Revisiting LOST IN TRANSLATION (& More Than This), penned by Terry R [Back to Board]
Are you new?

I love Lost in Translation for all the reasons you list and bought the DVD, although I don't watch it often. As much as I love it, I also find that it can be a downer. Two people find comfort in each other's company because there are voids in their respective lives. I find that aspect bittersweet. But then there is that vague ending. We have talked about it before on this board and my conclusion is that those of us who commented interpreted the ending according to how we think it should be -- do they go back to their respective spouses better for the brief friendship in Tokyo or do they make a plan to see each other again, inevitably leading to the break up of two marriages? I'm happy to have that dialogue again and see if I change my mind. Perhaps I should rewatch it this week.
