Colonel Brandon met Marianne (and her family)in Chapter 7 at dinner at Barton Park, where she played the pianoforte and sang for everyone later in the evening.

Mrs. Jennings and Sir John had already been teasing the colonel and Marianne about each other for a couple of weeks before Marianne met Willoughby in Chapter 9.
