GR: S&S raised in my esteem by all your insight   Written by Delories (9/17/2003 5:50 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR not that sentimental, penned by emi
Are you new?

] Yes, agree with Barbara. It is the opposite of sentimental.

And I agree with both of you, and others here, I'm sure, in that S&S comes down squarely on the side of "sense" rather than "sensibility" -- although, in the usual masterly JA turn of events, Elinor gains some of the latter and Marianne a bit more of the former.

This is my first GR at Pemberley, and I must admit that I got involved precisely because S&S had always been my least favourite of the JA canon -- not to say that I didn't love it, I just loved it less :-) -- and I was curious to hear what others had to say.

Thanks to all of your insights -- some of them very keen, and others very funny (I'd forgotten how funny S&S can be) -- the novel has really been raised in my esteem. And that's just what a GR should do: give one new perspectives on a work.
