GR: "Ultimate Gentleman"   Written by Mary Anne (9/16/2003 8:32 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR My guess, penned by Kristen G.
Are you new?

] I think the Colonel would look to Elinor and act accordingly. If Elinor seemed to wish to talk to Willoughby, I have little doubt that the Colonel, Ultimate Gentleman,

]would withdraw and let them talk. However, if Elinor seemed to need rescuing, I also have little doubt that the Colonel would escort Willoughby outside (if Willoughby hadn't already exited). I do doubt that he would challenge him to a duel, at least in front of the Dashwood ladies.

I can't imagine the duel scenario either, though I have to wonder if he'd leave Elinor alone if he came in and found Willoughby there. With Mr. Palmer away, I'm supposing that Brandon is the Designated Male Protector for the ladies and given what we know of Willoughby's reputation by now, it might not be proper for Elinor to be left alone with him for any length of time.

But all of this probably academic, because I'm also thinking that if Brandon walked in, Willoughby would probably vacate the premises--PDQ.
